BUDGET APPROPRIATIONS

Annual Budget Appropriations

Here is how it all works:

 

Student Senate is committed to helping all of the organizations in the ONU community achieve their goals.  To that end, Student Senate awards funds to organizations through the budget appropriations process. In order to be eligible for the normal budget appropriations process, a representative of the organization must be present at one of two information meetings. The organization must then fill out an application by the due date. Once all applications are received, the Finance Committee of Student Senate will meet to determine how much money to allocate to each organization. Upon being informed of the amount your organization is awarded by the Finance Committee, you will have the option to either accept or appeal the amount.  If you accept the amount, the funds will be deposited into your organization's account with the Controller within one week of approval by the General Assembly of Student Senate.  If you appeal, your organization must appear in front of General Assembly and state why you feel the Finance Committee's award is inadequate.

 

 

Special appropriations are available to new organizations or to organizations that have unexpected opportunities arise during the course of the year.

Special Budget Appropriations

Here is how it works:

 

At any time, if an organization needs more funds for a new project, notice shall be given to the Finance Committee by filing a Special Budget Appropriation form online. Click on the Special Budget Appropriations tab. The same procedure shall be followed as in the initial budgetary process. Special appropriations can only be made for projects that could not, by the judgment of the Finance Committee, have been foreseen at the initial budget request. Special appropriations must benefit Ohio Northern University as a whole and not only the organization’s members. Special appropriations hearings can only be held with the consent of the President, Vice President, and the Secretary of Finance. Organizations receiving University recognition for the first time (and became a recognized organization after the annual Budget Appropriations) will also be eligible to receive Special Budget Appropriations. Organizations can receive between $25 and $150 from Student Senate in a Special Budget Appropriation. The appropriated amount will be determined by the Finance Committee and approved by General Assembly.

Special Event Budget Appropriations

Here is how it works:

 

At any time, if an organization or representative group needs support funding for an event, notice shall be given to the Student Senate Treasurer by submitting the necessary specific event appropriation forms made available by Student Senate at http://senate.onu.edu and clicking on the Specific Event Request form. Event appropriations requests should be made for purposes that would not be covered through the Student Senate Budget Appropriations Process. Specific event appropriations must benefit the Ohio Northern University as a whole and not only the organization or group’s members. The forms will be reviewed and decided upon by the President, Vice President, and Treasurer of Student Senate, with the funds coming from the contingency of the budget managed directly by the President and Treasurer.
